Woe in Walton as bridge work brings town to a standstill

Gridlock hit Walton this morning, following a lane closure at Walton bridge.

Almost the entire town was bumper-to-bumper with vehicles trying to get out of town and get to work.

It took one commuter an hour and a half to reach the bridge from her home in Rydens Road.

A member of Walton-on-thames.org said: “I know that there will be some disruption because of the new bridge. But the arbitary nature of this beggers belief.”

There was no clear mention of the works on Surrey County Council’s homepage, despite the massive disruption, prompting complaints from residents to the authority.
