Thames Ditton Infants School gets its walking boots on
10:30am Wednesday 22nd February 2012
Pupils ditched the petrol and used their own energy to get to school for a whole week this month.
Thames Ditton Infants School encouraged its children to walk, cycle and scoot their way to the school gates to limit their impact on the environment.
The school also held a special wake and shake event in the playground for pupils, parents and carers.
Every morning, children joined their teachers for 10 minutes of invigorating and fun exercise in the playground.
The sessions were designed to get children prepared for the day ahead and promote the school’s commitment to providing a healthy environment.
Headteacher Julie McCallum-Allen said: “It has been brilliant seeing so many of our parents join us for our wake and shake morning exercises, I hope they all enjoyed themselves.
“I am so pleased to see so many of our families making the effort to walk, scoot or cycle to school.
“It is not only an opportunity to emphasis with pupils that we want to reduce our CO2 admissions but also to how important exercise is.”
